DescriptionHehir graduated MD from the University of Brussels in 1883 and gained his Diploma in Public Health from the University of Cambridge in 1886. He was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1908 and of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1885. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1885.

He joined the Indian Medical Service in 1886 and became the Assistant Director of Medical Services, Burma Div and Poona Div 1912-1913. His service during the First World War included working as Deputy Director of Medical Services, Army Headquarters, Simla 1914, Assistant Director of Medical Services, Indian Expeditionary Force, Mesopotamia 1915-1916 and Deputy Director of Medical Services, Northern Army, India 1917-1919 with special promotion to Surgeon General for war services 1918. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Turks in Baghdad in 1916. He retired in 1920 but acted as Medical Adviso to the British Red Cross Society Mission to Greek refugees in 1923.
