TitleCollection of William Henderson
DescriptionHenderson graduated MD at Edinburgh in 1831 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1838. He became physician to the fever wards and pathologist to the Royal Infirmary. In 1842 he succeeded John Thomson as Professor of Pathology at Edinburgh.

He published a series of clinical studies on diseases of the heart and larger blood vessels and was probably the first to distinguish between typhus and relapsing fever. He also supported homeopathy which lost him his job at the Infirmary. Although the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh passed various resolutions against those Fellows who professed homeopathy no action appears to have been taken against Henderson.
