Description Of Item | The diary entries are by the medical superintendent James Crichton-Browne. They only cover one year which may be because of the opening of a separate facility at Cox Lodge. The patients are listed on the first page and thereafter each entry gives the number of male and female patients, their behaviour and activities. It also goes into details of disciplinary actions against staff and inspections by the Committee of Visitors. After the diary entries stop, Crichton-Browne used the volume for general notes and quotations from journal articles and articles by himself on the 'Pathology of Kleptomania', 'Moral Causes of Insanity', 'Puerperal Insanity' etc (many of these do not have obvious titles) some of which contain case studies. |
