TitleStudent notes of William Pond from clinical lectures of John Rutherford
Date19 Jan 1753 - 17 May 1762
TermLeucorrhoea
Venereal disease
Description Of ItemThe book is signed on the inside front cover by William Pond with the heading beneath 'Dr Whyte's Clinical Lectures' and on the page before the index 'William Pond May 17th 1762'. According to a note by Douglass Taylor in the original manuscripts catalogue, although the volume was originally attributed to Robert Whytt, he thought it should be John Rutherford. Many of the cases and the lectures on specific conditions are the same word-for-word as those in AUA/1 which are clearly assigned to Rutherford. Pond may therefore have reused a volume he had intended to use for Whytt. However, there is a reference on p318 within a lecture 'On Worms' to 'a clinical patient of Dr Rutherfurd's' (rather than to 'a patient of mine'). This would seem to indicate that this lecture at least was not by Rutherford.

The volume consists of patient's case studies with a heading giving the condition. The lectures on specific conditions are on venereal disease, scurvy, fluor albus, headache and worms. Also included is an abstract of a lecture by Professor Alexander Monro senior 'On a Surgical Patient in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary - A Burnt Breast' which appears at p273 and again at the end after the index.
