| Description Of Item | These should be consulted alongside the volume as many of them relate to the subjects on the pages referred to in the entries. Some of the inserts had been removed at an earlier date and the page number written in pencil. Although a lot of those inserts were letters, they were not considered to be sufficiently different from the rest of the inserts to keep them separate. Similarly, it is not known if the letter from James Oliphant at WHR/2/162 was originally in the casebook but in the absence of any other provenance, it has been included here. Undated items were given the date of the volume although many of them may be later.
Some inserts have been pasted into the book and these have been left in place. Some of the items are very small and should be handled carefully. |
