Description Of ItemIn 1903 the Laboratory was purchased from the Royal College of Physicians by the Carnegie Trust for £10,000, with the purpose of funding and supporting original research. The Royal College of Physicians paid £750 pounds annually and the Royal College of Surgeons £200 towards the costs of running the laboratory. The arrangement was to last for 5 years and be reviewed - although details of the agreement changed over the years, the Carnegie Trust continued to fund and support the laboratory until its closure in 1950.

The file contains correspondence, draft agreements, reports and financial records relating to the Carnegie Trust.

It also includes a memorandum by the Treasurer for the information of the Executive Committee on with reference to expenditure on the Royal College of Physicians Laboratory, a memorandum by the Clerk on the proposal of the Laboratory Committee to utilise the surplus revenue on the Reporting Account as a floating reserve for subsidising research work in the laboratory, and a memorandum by the curator of the Royal College of Physicians Laboratory on its development and relationship with the Carnegie Trustees.
