TitleLetter from C Betham, London, England to William Cullen
Date12 Feb 1788
Description Of ItemHe thanks Cullen for his letter with two introductory letters for him to give to Hunter and Pitcairn. He postponed writing as his application for franks from Lord Selkirk was delayed due to Selkirk being so busy 'vindicating the rights of Scottish peerage'. He had received an invitation 'to walk St Bartholomew's Hospital' with David Pitcairn who advised Betham to attend John Hunter's dissecting room. Betham had also met Hunter's brother in law Home and, when dining at Pitcairn's, Archie and Fenella. Jamie Bryce does dissecting in Hunter's room and is soon to qualify as an East India surgeon. He comments on the large number of Edinburgh medical graduates 'to be met with here by walking the Strand. I cannot conceive what they are all doing'.
