| Description Of Item | Press cuttings from an unknown publication. Relating to the special general meeting of the directors of the House of Refuge for the Destitute in Edinburgh held on 15 June 1864 within the Council Chambers. Presents a report made by the Committee of Management, regarding the building of a new building within the grounds of the House of Refuge (Queensberry House Hospital). The new building would be devoted to the accommodation and treatment of ‘females of intemperate habits’, to create a better situation for those of a ‘higher social position’ as they were previously housed in the main building of the institution. The second cutting is an extract of part of another report on female inmates from the House of Refuge and presents some successful rehabilitation cases.
