TitleLetter [by William Cullen ?], Edinburgh, Scotland to Lord Balcarras
Date13 Nov 1781
Description Of ItemDraft response to Lord Balcarras who had written describing the spread of a contagious disease in Jamaica [West Indies]. The writer regrets that no doctors had been able to observe any of the sick and still feels that this should be a priority. He doubts how the disease was first spread and thinks the family must have had some contact with the Jamaican [West Indian] fleet. He gives some advice on containing the spread of the disease by restricting movement with magistrates acting in the interests of public safety and gives specific advice for the treatment of patients.
