| Description Of Item | This series contains letters to William Cullen (except where indicated) principally from other doctors and are more personal letters rather than purely consultations. However, there is cross-over with series CUL/1/2/ and obvious matches have been cross-referred.
The first two boxes had hand-written indexes which were presumably compiled when the letters were bound into volumes. One item on the index to the first box is missing (a letter from Cullen to Dr Warren). There are also letters in both boxes which are not in the indexes and it is not known when these were added. To distinguish these, where an item is in the index it is indicated in the entry. The third box consists of letters of condolence on the death of Cullen and some letters to Henry Cullen.
As with CUL/1/2/ the title of each item is the correspondent's name and location (where given). Where parts of a name could not be deciphered these have been indicated by a question mark in square brackets. All names are spelt as they are given in the letters although modern spellings of place names, where known, are given in square brackets. There is no indexing on the reverse of the letters as CUL/1/2/ and nor are there any cross-references to the outgoing letter books. |
