The letter is about the double stethoscope (polystethoscope), which he used in teaching at the London Hospital. He recommended its use in teaching and in private practice, and mentioned another stethoscope made by Daniel Ferguson of Giltspur Street. The letter includes an illustration of how the double stethoscope was used on a male chest. It was published in the Medical Times and Gazette on 5 April 1862.
