The article was written by William Stokes and it reviews the literature about and cases of vapours being used to treat laryngeal diseases. It discusses the work of figures such as Carl Heinrich Brockmann, Georg Richard Lewin and James Crauford Gregory. William Stokes describes his own experience of recommending a patient to inhale nitrate of silver to cure his aphonia. The article also contains illustrations of vaporising devices used by physicians from Berlin, including Louis Waldenburg. The article is published across two separate pages.
