Description Of Item | This club was made by the famous club maker Hugh Philp (1782-1856). He was appointed official club maker to the Society of St. Andrews Golfers which would become the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. The club was originally owned by Allan Robertson (1815-1859) who was one of the first golf professionals. He became the leading golfer in the 1840s and was the first to score less than 80 on the Old Course at St. Andrews. He was also regarded as the premier golf club and ball manufacturer of his time. Robertson was voted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001. This club is on loan from The Royal Colleges Golf Club. |
