| Description Of Item | Brass apparatus comprising a soda lime canister with inlet and outlet pipes. Fitted to the lower pipe is a glass, drip-feed vaporising chamber below a reservoir (probably for ether or vinesthene). May have been constructed using a shell casing, most likely from WW1 era as this fits the precise dimensions of smaller artillery ordnance of the time. Projecting from the top of the reservoir at the side is a knob for needle control of the drip rate. Reference: Minnitt RJ, Gillies J. Textbook of Anaesthetics (7th edn., 1948) p. 187 (Fig. 85).
The glass surrounding the drips inlet (vaporising chamber) is broken. The open hole at the top of the ether reservoir must be missing a filler cap. |
